Remote Observations
1—Join the zoom link from your intake session on a laptop, iPad, or cell phone (the viewing device)
2—Mute the sound on the zoom (or do not join audio).
3—Place the viewing device up and away in the room where the child is playing so I can observe behavior in the natural setting (e.g., on a mantle pointing down, or on a countertop pointing toward a large area of the room). When it is far back I can get a better view of the whole area. This may also serve the purpose of not drawing the child's attention to the viewing device.
4—Put your cell phone in your pocket and connect to it via a wired headset. This will allow me to give you private instructions and hear what others in the room are saying. If you have wireless headphones, please make sure that they are not noise canceling because that will prevent me from hearing what others in the room are saying.
5—I will call a parent on their cell phone. If both parents are present, I will add the second parent to the line. If both parents are present, then one parent must mute their phone to prevent feedback.
Note: The viewing device will remain in the same location, even if the child leaves the room. I will capture what is happening by sound through your phone if the child leaves the main area. Keeping it in one place allows you to be more engaged with the child and reduces the child's attention to the device.
Remote Testing Sessions
You will open the package once the zoom session starts.
You may need a scissors. You will want to be careful opening the package since you may use the same packing material to mail the package back. You will be mailing the material back via UPS with the enclosed mailing label.
Be careful as you pull the material out so it does not spill since it is in the order we will use for testing.
As we go through the material the person taking the test will put the material back in the envelope you plan to use to mail it back. So put that envelope to the side of the testing area.
Basically I need to see the patient from the front from the top of his head to the desk area, as well as the desk area in front of him/her (e.g., using a laptop or desktop computer).
Since I need to see what s/he is constructing/drawing I will need a second camera for close up shots. One way is to put a phone iPad to the side. Or, someone could hold the second camera overhead during the relevant tests (it's not all of them).
